... Far more danger from planners and house builders than mother nature if you ask me :D

Indeed. There seems to be a possibility that the line may have to terminate on the edge of the town - see http://tinyurl.com/d4njwww

The route of the line has been safeguarded in previous plans. However ...

I've read that there used to be a miniature railway at Severn Beach, although I've no memories of it myself so it must have gone before 1970.

Does anyone remember what it was like?

Re: Severn Beach - was it a dead end pre-Beeching?

My first acquaintance with Severn Beach was circa 1952 when we took a train from Redland [via Avonmouth], and my lasting recollection is that we arrived at a dead-end platform at 90 degrees to the beach.

I wonder whether your recollection was influenced by the unusual configuration of the ...

Roy (the green mile) and I have been "plotting" off group between ourselves about another meeting.

Does anybody fancy another evening of stopping some real ale going sour at the Barley Mow? A fortnight tomorrow, Monday 28th January, is looking like the favourite at the moment.

Any views anybody ...

I would caution against it too. Portbury Shipyard was a fairly substantial place back in the 1920s ...

The suggestion is Portbury station itself rather than Portbury Shipyard, and I think the circumstantial evidence is pretty strong.

I have just been leafing through my copy of Reflections on ...

I just have learned through another channel (Gerry Nichols at the Bristol Railway Circle) that the location has now been identified as Portbury.

The Portishead branch seems sort of obvious now, but for some reason I don't think it occurred to any of us to suggest it.

I'll be coming by train from Redland arriving BTM at 20:04, so I expect I'll be at the Barley Mow about 20:15.

I think I'll phone the pub in advance to check if they're serving any food other than cheesy chips tonight.

[ got past the three simple questions, but it said my password must be eight characters long.

I don't want an eight character password. It's a railway forum - not a bank!

Lost my interest already ...

Sorry - swanning off topic again

I've just got home from my morning's excursion. We arrived at Temple Meads for the 09:05 departure to Portbury. The train was formed of three coaches comprising a Class 150 and a 153. Although there were a fair number of passengers, the service was by no means full. There were a larger number of ...
