The Festoons are quick off the mark these days! Watch out for stuff from yesterday when it worked a test train made up of freight stock for next week's Gala.

A glossary of terms for the old WD 2-8-0s

I don't believe that any class of loco had as many nicknames as the old WD. Most of them would be perjorative in any case.

On of the old guys who drops in for a brew occasionally is an ex Sowerby Bridge fireman and he rated the WD as better from the fireman's point of view than the stanier 8F being ...

I thought Lenny was far more entertaining than Keith Harris and Orville the Duck. But then you have to acknowledge an entertainer who can make a living out of shoving his hand up a duck's backside.

So now we have moved the thread on to pairing ventriloquists with their dummies. Dead easy when you ...

By the way Ralph, spring has been known to be half over by Feb 18th in the south. Presumably you mean spring up north.
Yup, that tends to cut in around May!

Mondays are usually OK for me and the 18th February would be no exception. So that's two down for the 18th :)

Anybody else fancy coming along?

As that would take me out of town for t@wife's birthday, and I have become rather attached to my "bits" I'm afraid I'll have to sit that one out! I ...

to add to everyone else's good wishes, Norton and I send greetings of the season and best wishes for 2013.

I don't know whether any other ex 82E engines are steaming around this time, but rest assured the old shed hack is still flying your flag heading our Santa's this weekend and tomorrow ...

In case anybody hasn't noticed it on the "Bath Road Depot" thread, we are having another one of these meetings at the Barley Mow on Monday 26th November.

The main purpose is to get a plan of Bath Road offices together, so any former 82A men will be more then welcome, as of course will anybody else ...

Mind you, I did get into "Rail News" once in 1974 because I did ATV "New Faces" - came 4th out of 7. Arthur Askey liked it (Micky Most didn't...). The winner that week was a comedian called Billy Moocho - I wonder what became of him?

Now I suppose I'll have to bring the contract along to prove that ...

Jules, I will probably be there about 1800 coming up on 1A27 non stop from WSM so you won't be drinking alone. That's assuming it gets in from Paddington on time for its very tight turnround.

Apart from winding up our northern friends about Flying Pigs, any other thoughts on a theme? If this ...

Judging by the slow response to Robin's suggestion, you might actually be coming down to the next meeting.

I wasn't sure if the lack of responses meant that everybody was on holiday or whether it was a quiet but resounding "no"

Given the shortage of responses so far, it did make me ...

I'm up for it. Is everyone on holiday at the moment?

Any ideas for a central theme to act as a main focus of discussion?

Family hols beckon and we're into the midweek running now so likely to be September when I could manage another Monday. I'm sure you weren't expecting the 55F contingent to ...

Re: Railway terminology
As it's been very quiet around here lately I thought I'd see if a discussion could be got going over the term "train station." I have to add that this is in direct response to a letter I've just read in a railway magazine penned by one of our illustrious BRA members in the ...
