I wonder why FGW do now make available these cheap(er) advance tickets available at peak times? Perhaps a lot of people have made complaints about it over the years and they've finally seen sense? Or the DFT ordered them to?

Yep, I knew about splitting fares to get journeys cheaper. For instance, Bristol-Cheltenham return, and Cheltenham-Birmingham return. Works out at about ú25 rather than ú41. Though I can't really get it significantly cheaper to Manchester using this method.

Bristol-Manchester(direct route) ú27 single/ú54 return.

Problem with my scanner unfortunately. But Taunton services from the 1986 timetable. From Bristol Temple Meads slow services to Taunton on a weekday, departing at 0655, 0800, then not untill 1425, 1615, 1722, 1810,2012, 2235. Also, 1105 and 1350 Weston Super Mare-Taunton services.

Bit late replying again to my own thread. But yes, the old timetables are far more interesting than the current timetables. With a lot more variation in stopping patterns and journey times.

Thanks Madhattie. Whilst 67's aren't the same as 37's, I think it's still worthy of me getting down that way to make use of these special workings.

I take it it's just the 1721 Weymouth-Bristol which is hauled by the 67's then? And there are no 67's hauling services to Weymouth on Saturday's ...

Anyone know if 37's are now actually being used on Summer Saturday Bristol-Weymouth services? If so, I will plan a special day out for myself so I can enjoy a nice long journey(or two) aboard these superb trains.

from what i remember, they used to operate some of the adelantes on cardiff > portsmouth anyway, shame they dont still, as it was a relatively reliable service then
