That's perfectly true - you can!! :)

You will often find around here that if people don't know the answer they tend not to post and say they don't know, they just don't post!
I don't know either - it was 2 years before I moved to Bristol

There was a driver at Bath Road in the 60s/70s who always seemed to lightly touch the stop blocks when running into platform 1 at TM - never enough to cause damage or injury, but noticeable nevertheless.

There were at least 3 drivers who let me into the cab on the 'Beach line regularly, and one always used to let me stop the train at my station - Redland. Got quite a dab hand at it after a couple of goes! They all got me to hand over the token at Hallen Marsh on return from the 'Beach

Here's another one, from when I used to run the pub. About 2002, I started to notice people saying "Can I get a Fosters?" I used to say "Yes, of course you can. I get mine from Avonmouth" ... :D They always looked rather perplexed until a regular explained that Jules only responds to "may I have ...

I may have mentioned this elsewhere, but I remember the Redland end of the Up (remaining) platform was lower than usual and it was quite a step up into a train.

I have a block instrument and a lamp indicator from Bedminster box and I used to have in the garden a ground signal ("dummy") from St Andrew's Junction.

I never remember the token hoops actually being used at Hallen Marsh - the token ("key" as everyone called it) was handed over by hand. As a lad ...

Re: What kindled your interest in railways?

Ahh, yes. Westerns and Warships, the pride of the Premier Region :D

When I was a telegraph boy at Taunton, I used to love the Warships because they were always breaking down - they were a disaster for the operating authorities.

Wnen I was a Secondman at Reading in the early '70s, my one and ...

Re: The #33 Bus Thread

[quote="Philip M. HicksOff-topic, don't suppose you are related to Jerry Hicks are you?[/quote]

Andrew - Park Street would surely have been to steep for the horse drawn trams, this would have set the route for the electric powered ones later on? Even the buses struggled in later years going up! I ...

Re: The #33 Bus Thread

I may be dreaming or mixing up my locations, but I seem to have a memory of tram lines at the top of Colston St, below the retaining wall (on which the signalbox sat) on the slope up to what was, I seem to recall reading, a horse depot for tram horses........?

I used to catch the train to TM on a Saturday morning from Montpelier. Never bought a platform ticket; bought ticket for return trip on the train. (I don't think you could get returns on the 'Beach line in those days (c1968-73) for some reason.

OF COURSE! The O8s had brake vans, the 03s had match wagons. Apologies for being so emphatic earlier that O8s had match wagons - and thanks to "Oldchapie" for pointing this out. My memory has started playing tricks on me!!
