Afraid the routing of the pigeon special from Wolverhanpton refers to Dudley (where vehicles for Bath were detached) and Stourbridge Jn but nothing else; possibly Worcester, Charfield, Yate South, Westerleigh, Dr Days, Bathampton, Westbury.
Alternative might have been Oxford, Foxhall, Swindon ...

Some problem playing the clip but an announcer at one time was Paul Mitchell. Hopefully I will eventually get this film to work and I may be able to confirm or otherwise. An earlier announcer during the 70s was Jack Wheeler although I did not know him personally.

If anyone has a copy of April 1964 "Railway World" there is an excellent article about a "Pigeon Train to Frome" (from Wolverhampton Low Level) written by "Warren Smith" who was the stationmaster there. In later years I knew him as Mr Smith when he was my boss in the B & E Building.
Fine railwayman ...

Just to place on record that the last Northbound Pines out of Bath Green Park was hauled by "Black 5" No. 44659 (not 44859 incorrectly transposed from an earler article of mine on another website). On Summer Saturdays the Pines avoided Birmingham New Street and my understanding is that 44659 went as ...

Barrow Road Depot "furniture"

A bit quiet on the forum lately so hope no-one minds this light-hearted request for opinions and advice.
Many years ago I was bequeathed what at first glance looked like a porters barrow; however, carved or branded down one side (none to neatly) is BRISTOL RM BARROW ROAD. I believe this to be a ...

Blue Pullman Bristol to Leeds 9th March 1968

In "Modern Locomotives Illustrated No. 176" there is a photograph of the "Blue Pullman" at Bristol TM ready to depart for Leeds; the train was run in connection with a Leeds V Bristol City cup tie. Does anyone have any gen on whether this went via Mangotsfield or Stapleton Road to Yate please ...

Very sorry; I was hoping to make an attempt to attend but I now find that I will not be in Bristol that evening.
Perhaps if it is a success there can be another get-together at a future date.

The W N Lockett book I was trying to find last week is "The Norman Lockett Archive - The Somerset & Dorset Railway 1935 - 1966" by Mike Arlett and David Lockett. There are a few photos and references to the Gloucester to Bournemouth train and one caption indicates that the "3.35 pm Bristol to ...

Tyrwitt and Robin; apologies for delay in thanking you for your replies. Maybe one day someone's notes may see daylight and then I shall know for sure.

Ref the ô2Pö and two coaches:
This train may have been the return working of a remnant of the 11.40am from Bournemouth to the North. Robin Atthill in his S&D book refers to it as only going to Gloucester some time after the war, but in summer occasionally to Derby (the 1959 WTT shows that as Fri ...

I have found two published references to Class 40s

Modern Railways September 1966 - D335 photographed running into BTM captioned as a return Weston-Super-Mare to Coventry excursion. I have a recollection that Midland (Saltley) men had road knowledge to WSM for this sort of work so would not have ...

I can confirm that Peaks, Brush Type 4s, Westerns, and the odd Warship worked local trains between Bristol TM and Bath Green Park from time to time. Apparently there is a photo taken at Mangotsfield showing a D95xx on a local passenger but I have so far been able to trace it - can anyone help please ...

"Hall" class on local passenger Bristol to Bath Gr

I am prompted to start this new thread as a result of the reminder about a "Scot" on a stopper in the "Jubilees south of Mangotsfield" topic.
One evening my spotters train home (the same 5.06 or 5.10 pm from Bristol TM) was very late and eventually left behind a Hall, tender first.
My notes have ...

Thanks for all the info in this topic - I was aware of the "Scot" on a local passenger train from Bristol to Bath GP, but thanks to Robin for the additional Jubilee reference and all the other locos.
Rather than carry on this topic I will initiate a fresh one asking about an ex-GW "Hall" on a local ...
