NR means Not Running.

Or, to every solution they will find a problem. Typical of today's can't do mentality.

Better than being called Elfan Safety!

Seriously though, you should be careful about making allegations of slush funds.

How much money was the Bristol TM to Bath GP train service losing, back in the 60s when they closed it down as loss-making? I expect it was a lot less than the figures now being bandied about for a bus service - even allowing for inflation.

Very true. Rail is just too unreliable.

I was imprisoned for about four hours in a broken down Virgin Voyager a couple of months ago. You couldn't open any windows and air condtioning failed.

It is a major deterrent to using public transport especially at night, when stations are unstaffed, scruffy and clearly left to the yobs. Graffiti certainly reinforces that, and the car is seen as safer - provided that you lock all doors from the inside.

That's modern Britain for you.

Those pix brought back some happy memories. I spent all day there, but realiosed only late in the day that the film wasn't properly loaded in my camera. Thanks for sharing these.

The Severn Beach line has a lot of scope for a photographic project, and this photo made me realise that. The branch has a wide variety of stations and passengers with some freight mixed in at Avonmouth.

Amazing what potential is at your back door.

Avon Valley Railway

I've heard that on Sunday 29th October, there is to be an end of season gala, with 2 industrial steam and the 07 at work. I can't get at the timetable on their website - don't know why, but it keeps saying page unavailable.

Can anyone please confirm the event?

The railway operators are somewhat inconsistent with 'revenue protection'. On train ticket checking is very haphazard. On one train, the conductor quite rightly goes through the train after every stop, while on others the conductor doesn't bother at all.

For regular travel like Bath to Bristol, it ...

If it's not too narrow a subject, the role of the Severn Beach branch as a transport facility in the past, the loss of the Henbury loop for passengers and the loop from Severn Beach to Pilning, the survival of what is left and its potential for the future. I'm sure there is a vast amount of local ...

I believe that this is to be beefed up, but will involve temporary closure of existing museum.

How will this affect the Harbour Railway? It is something I enjoy when I visit Bristol; the docks backdrop makes for nice pictures. Even better to be there before the service gets going - watching the ...

Many people don't like nuclear power, and I respect their views, but it doesn't alter the fact that we have it, and consequently there is nuclear waste that has to be transported whether we like it or not.

The hard fact of the matter is that rail is safer than road transport for this. I see no ...

Bristol days recalled

I just want to say well done to Dunstable Dasher for the atmospheric series of shots - the black and white suits the subject admirably and brings me back to when I lived in Bristol (1973 - 1974). I love these backwaters!

I used to live in Clifton; used to enjoy taking the train into Temple Meads as ...
