My wife Helen (Ley) used to live in the Forest of Dean where her Grandad, Andy Jackson was a driver at Lydney. She recounts a trip accross the 'proper' Severn Bridge in 1958 on the footplate then back on the cushions. I asked her the number of the loco but she did not know! I would guess 1441 or ...

Can you repost the Max Williams link as it is saying no photos. This is where I bought most of my Bradford Barton books. I always remember buying a book and found I was 5 bob short and Max said drop it in on your next visit. I also used the barber next door.

Just a quick line to say a big thankyou to all the volunteers who made the pie and pint evening absolutely brilliant. Non stop through Bitton (twice), real ale and a black 5 was very atmospheric. Thanks again,

I seem to remember that when I travelled from Bath in the 60's to Bristol TM incidently just using a platform ticket so always used a dmu with no corridor, we used to exit and get back on BTM after bunking SPM and Barrow Roadl via a doorway under the bridge at the west end of the station.

The above site has 2 good links.
Interesting to look at Bristol Temple Meads workings for 1961.
Pure bliss is the Argo TR103 recording Bath GP to Combe Down Tunnel.
Enjoy!

New years eve rituals

Although I have lived in Bath since 1963, back on new years eve for 1961/2 I lived in Truro and can remember the locos on
shed sounding their whistles to bring in the new year. Did any local sheds do this?
Finally, I wish all members a healthy and safe 2011.
