Looks and sounds surprisingly cool. :)

Regarding the smoke, im not sure how they run in train engines at the start of their life, but if its like many other engines it will burn a bit more oil (the video shown mostly blue smoke, ie oil) for a while while the piston rings bed in.

i dont see this being bathampton in the location mentioned above, trees or not.

the loop ends far far too close in the distance from the mill lane bridge to be there. in reality it goes for a good few hundred meters from the bridge.

it also ends seemingly past the bridge in the pic, it doesnt now ...

I saw a test train being pushed, ie 31 at the rear, from lydney direction in to Gloucester station, about, erm, midnight or maybe a little after, tonight.

It wasnt the pictured one though, it was dark but IIRC it was 3 yellow carriages and the 31 was in an intercity black style livery.

and that ...

Bringing this back to the top, as I was just having dinner and noticed a Bristol+Bath A-Z map book on the side, from 1999 it seems, and had a browse through it.

Bizzarely, the paper mill sidings are still on the map, even though surely they was lifted way sooner?

A few things that im sure were ...

Fantastic info on the Paper Mill site, cheers :D

So where did the Tate & Lyle and the Square Grip Reinforcement Company sidings branch off?

Just after the Paper Mill site (on the Bath side) you can see a flat expanse of land where I guess some sidings were, but aside from that, ive no idea.

Im ...

Interesting :) And yeah, the remaining bit of track curves 90deg in a short space so would have to be short wheelbase locos to use most of it I reckon.

There a book available about railways in Keynsham, not seen it yet but mentions 4 different branches/sidings.
That would be the Frys branch, this ...

No Lowjack, thanks to this site I know about that one :), but just after that on the Bath side, the paper mill.

You can clearly see railways tracks still in the tarmac at the mill, and it doesnt take much of a keen eye to see how the embankment has been made to slope down there for a single track ...
