I was there, as you know Robin 8)

I just took the 'short walk' through Devonshire Tunnel. Main hazard - cyclists! Despite the lighting, still really quite dark and difficult to see anyone not using a torch or cycle light when coming towards you thru' the shadows.

In a way I'm glad you posted ...

Cycle lanes that they don't use...they prefer pavements, red lights they don't stop at, they just ride through them.

And now another "green" initiative where on the official opening ...

Watched programme with Ian Hislop on BBC 4 discussing this very issue. The problem was as far as he could see was that Beeching just looked at finances not the operation of a railway from a social or functional basis. If a line made a loss it was closed even if it was supplying the passengers to ...

Dr Richard Beeching

Its been rather quiet around here lately, and we appear to have missed (by a couple of days) the 50th anniversary of the publication of the Beeching Report. As nobody has started a thread about it I thought I would.

So, was he evil, misguided, or was he on the right track (pun intended) in getting ...

i guess i can ask . . . . . ??

That's perfectly true - you can!! :)

You will often find around here that if people don't know the answer they tend not to post and say they don't know, they just don't post!

Really and truly I ought to know. Although I had moved from Staple Hill in 1964 I was ...

Might have known that you would have a story to tell on this topic, Robin!

Nothing seems to pass you by, does it?

You make it sound like you have suspicions that I made the story up :)

No proof, I'm afraid - my camera was not with me that day, but it was on hand on this day ...

I seem to have missed this thread :)

I was involved in a minor wallop c.1964 when I was on a train going north from Birmingham to Wolverhampton with an English Electric type 4 on the front (latterly class 40) when it was in collision with an 08 shunter at low speed, although I recall people got ...

One aspect of the work of possible concern is the number of stretches (as far as can be seen from nearby viewpoints) where continuous runs of high fencing are being installed immediately next to the edge of the actual tarmac path. In effect, users will be 'walled in' far more than on some other ...

I have a couple of shots taken on a pocket digi camera. If I had your email address I could send to you to keep or discrard as appropriate. The problem was attempting shots without visitors - not altogether successful.

My email address is on my profile page on here. However, I appear to ...
