I believe they were originally part of the line running across the other side of the Ashton Swing Bridge, but subsequently lifted when the line over the bridge closed (The upkeep costs versus the benefits were too much) and stored at the create centre, where the running line ends. The BHR never ...

Yeah it's the boiler from the steam tug 'mayflower' I believe, currently being restored. Handy to have it near the tools, power etc.

It is great indeed! Really nice with a small setup too, easier to learn names!

The railway is open for business (I believe it more or less manages to fund itself) while the museum is being rejigged - services run from the halt at the SS Great Britain to the Create Centre at the Ashton Swing Bridge ...

More goings on at the BHR

Well, yesterday was my first day of work on the BHR. The main task was to prep the Peckett 'Henbury' for the weekends work, among others!

I arrived to find Henburys fire lit having been dragged out ...

Photos from the Bristol Harbour Railway

-Please feel free to use any of these images on the main archive :D

So, today I took it upon myself to volunteer for the first time (What am I letting myself in for?!)
Drove down to the old industrial museum and had a look around the derelict buildings, then enquired at the shed and was shortly ...

Thanks guys, although I feel that if they keep on churning out these ridiculous ideas, one day they might be successful :? Might be worth showing opposition to the scheme just to show we are listening.

Bristol Harbour Railway under threat?

As some of you may know, there is a plan for a new (mis)guided busway for Bristol, following Cambridge's example.

Now, on a personal level I dislike these. It seems that they take as much infrastructure and money to build as a road, but with a fraction of the capacity, regardless of the fact they ...

Unsure who that's directed at :?
Just to clarify - I only used the phrase 'harmful smoke' to contrast with 'harmless steam'.

My theory was that the person in question is looking at the AVR locos going about their business and mistaking the plentiful steam for said gases, and making the assumption ...

Aye it did cross my mind but I typed away anyway

Maybe this fool doing the damage is under the impression that it is harmful smoke, not steam, coming out of the locomotive's exhaust, as it would with a car.

Makes me angry, like people who vandalise people's cars. To be honest it makes me ...

How about getting the press involved, but highlighting how ridiculous these claims are that preserved steam railways are to blame for global warming, vs the road going car, with some figures of average carbon emissions for a train compared to the same amount of people travelling by road?
Make the ...

No problem, sorry, just ripped the historic pictures off the Portishead Railway Group's website. Which ones belong to Mr. Thorn?
