Do you see where I'm coming from? I suppose my argument can be summarised as "if you're going to take on a job, do it properly"

Fully understand. However, I'm sure cost is the issue. it's probably the best attempt at a niche interest by a researcher who is not probably paid enough or doesn't have ...

This summarises the reasons why I gave up watching the programmes.

Whilst we have discussed on other threads the fact that the general public couldn't give a monkey's about these things, it does irritate me when, for example, he is supposed to be on a train between Brockenhurst and Bournemouth ...

Mangotsfield South Junction.

I'm sure I posted something about South Junction before, but I've just acquired a new photograph via ebay. It shows Mangotsfield South Junction in 1932, and is taken from where the Siston Hill roundabout now stands. In the dead centre of the picture is the ghost bridge. http://www.flickr.com/photos ...

I took a chance and saw it at Westerleigh. Sounded great accelerating off the curve.

Just started to rain as it approached. The loco was coasting, but the driver obligingly revved up just for us on the bridge!

We shouldn't go where we're not welcome or where it's dangerous. You just need to wait until they've built the cyclepath, which I believe runs through the yard and up the access road....

I think I'm perfectly entitled to say "often late". Every train I've been on to London recently has been late, at least 15 minutes late into Paddington, and even 10 minutes is unacceptable when you have to charge every 15 minutes of your working day. In effect 10 minutes is 10% of the total journey ...

I think we're all missing the basics; convenience and cost. It's more convenient to drive, the train would take time, and current services are often late, I don't believe it was any better some time ago either. If there's more than one person travelling together, it's much cheaper to drive and park ...

Was looking for the photo of the site of the box, it's been on my Flickr site for ages, forgot it was there. The bench in the picture is on the site of the box, the black (and white) pole in the picture is at the apex of the junction. The old cycle track can be clearly seen, and the frosty green ...

The south junction signal box was very similar to that at Warmley, appeared to have a timber base. The foundations were very much in evidence in the 1990's, I think I photographed the foundations before they built the ring road, but I'd have to check. Somewhere I have a picture of the box, taken ...
