:D Excellent! Much closer than the view from the little bridge at Grovesend.

I like this '37' style of train with its big shuttle nose. Also the blue and yellow colours plus my favourite logo. Simply iconic.

It looks like it was cold in Tytherington that day.

There were some plum trees beside the line and they were loaded with ripe plums. I picked four carrier bags full and offered some to the driver and his mate. They declined my offer, so I took them back to Bath Road where the foreman was a bloke who made his own wine. "Want some plums to make some ...

Cheers Andy!

I got talking to my mum tonight about this subject and she remembers a woman down the road whose husband worked at Tytherington Quarry, and that it was an annual thing that the company 'ARC' put on for workers and their families. Lucky them! :)

Great bit of info there. Clears up a few more questions about how the system worked on that line. Thanks Mitch (Andy)!

A few years back when I worked on the Great Western Business Park (I now work on Stover Trading Estate) I was working overtime and had the back doors to the office open when I ...

Thanks guys! (Knew this would be the place to ask)

Photos are ace (actually in the cab :o :D ), so the token (or staff) itself is a big key to be placed in signaling equipment.

I did some more 'googling' and found this page showing a token instrument.

Token Section

 Excuse my lack of knowledge but I'm curious about 'Tokens'. At this point on the single track Tytherington Quarry (Thornbury) line:

A sign can be viewed (from the safety of the footpath) that says something like 'commencement of token section ...

Ahh! So it was true then! :)

In fact there is a retired quarry worker that lives nearby me. My dad sometimes has a chat to him so maybe I'll do some investigating there.

Cheers for the info to both my posts tugboatcharly2.

Thanks for the swift replies folks. I didn't know about those visits.

Yeah if anyone can confirm any early 80s excursions that would be grand.

It's good that the need for freight has kept this line alive. Even though the section running up to the edge of the A38 is overgrown I think there are ...

Tytherington Quarry Excursion

Does anybody know if a special excursion ran from Tytherington Quarry to Weymouth back in past years (I guess the 1980s?)

My memory could be cheating me, but as a young lad I seem to remember someone at school talking about it.

Could have been just pulling my leg I suppose...

Love to hear any news on the old Thornbury line, so it seems this is the place to be! :D

I've lived in Thornbury most of my life and can just about remember some remains from the railway while exploring the area near the industrial estate in my youth (1980s).

I also work on the Stover Trading ...
