I was sitting in my car at the level crossing in Alstone Lane in Cheltenham in the rain on Saturday afternoon when 5029 chuffed by with a single coach (was that the "POB" mentioned in the movement details?). A nice surprise!

Or possibly (probably) earlier than 1966, now I realise the photo codes don't necessarily relate to dates!

I know it's two years after the original post, but Terry Nicholls appears to be presenting a talk for the GWS in Filton on March 8, entitled "Bristol in the 60s and GWR 150 specials".

That's pretty impressive! The houses in the foreground really stand out. But how...? Did you have a stereoscopic camera in the 60s?

I'd been wondering how the present-day topology of that area squares with some of Ian Tiley's old pictures of the line, in particular the first photo on the 13 Arches page showing the view down the back of Narroways Road. I don't suppose any pictures of the footbridge ...

I have to agree with Jules about the the standard class "airline seats". They may be comfortable(ish) to sit in, but your only view is of the back of the seat in front. I'm over six foot, but I can't see over them to get any perspective or change focus to prevent eyestrain on a long journey. This is ...
