Opened on the 8th September 1863. The lines through Stapleton Road were quadrupled in the 1930s with the laying of two lines east of the original formation. The new lines became the Main, while the original lines became the Relief. Despite their names, passenger trains were usually sent via the relief lines, while freight took the main. When I were a lad, we simply called them the Fast and Slow lines... This was of course wrong!
Many thanks to Laurence Spring and Alex Seal for their help regarding this station.

A view of Stapleton Road taken in the late 50s/early 60s. This pic was kindly sent to me by Martin Dyson. Mucho gracias :)

A general view back towards Lawrence Hill station. On the far left is the scar left by the removal of the main lines. In the distance a Voyager slows for it's final approach to Temple Meads.

A closer look at the distant signal and the footbridge.

The signal is Off and a Voyager blasts through.

The footbridge looked at from the other side. This is the original station footbridge, minus roof and halved in length.

158842 glides into the station. The feather on the signal is for the line to Severn Beach via Narroways Junction which is just past this station.

The view north from the end of Platform 2. The first bridge in the pic is that across the M32, while the footbridge in the background is the one at Narroways Hill. The building at the top of the hill is Brunel Tech.

The same bridge as the above photos. It once carried the main lines across Stapleton Road and the Motorway and is now slowly rotting away.

Looking towards Bristol along the formation of the old main lines. The platform edge is still visible, but everything else has disappeared under buddleia.
