6822 manton Grange at lawrence hill railway station

6822 Manton Grange heads a train bound for Cardiff through Lawrence Hill sometime in the 1960s. This loco was withdrawn in September 1964 and scrapped at Birds, Swansea. At the time of it's withdrawal it was allocated to Bristol Barrow Rd.

1970s

These pics kindly supplied by the Dunstable Dasher :)

The next set of pics were taken during Feb 2004.

looking towards Ducie Road

The view from Lawrence Hill looking back towards the bridge at Dulcie Road.

the bridge

A close up of the bridge which is bathed in strong afternoon sunlight.

the view of the station

Across the road bridge and the view of the removed main lines. I used to stand here and watch loose-coupled freights crawl along while on my way to the model railway shop next door.

another view

The view of the station from the roadbridge.

150236 heads for Bristol

In brilliant winter sunshine, 150236 heads towards Temple Meads.

a general view

A general view of the station looking in the direction of Bristol.

looking north

Looking north. The bridge in the distance carried the LMS mainline out of Temple Meads across the GWR one and is now in use as a cyclepath.

the entrance

When a supermarket was built on the site of the goods yard they included this new entrance to the station.

a voyager

A train bound for Edinburgh hurtles through the station.

the signal

The signal at the end of Platform 2. This protects the start of Dr Days Junction

the view under the road

The view under Lawrence Hill (the road) from Platform 2. Ducie bridge is in the background.

looking along the platform

Looking along the platform with electrical boxes and shelters in view.

looking north

The view north from Platform 2 with G.W.Bridge No.6 in the background and Easton Road behind that.

the big picture..

A view of Lawrence Hill taken from the Midland Railway overbridge. As you can see the entire area that used to be the goods yard and cement terminal has disappeared under new buildings. Note the two giant footballs at the right of this pic!

This next pic was taken in May 2004

40145 at lawrence hill railway station
