Happy New Year everyone!
What might we realistically hope for in 2022...I live out of area, and from my 'visitors' perspective my shopping list would be that
-by 2nd April, the Secretary of State for Transport makes a firm decision that the Portishead Line will be constructed, and in the near future
-at some point in the year, it will become possible to buy and use an (affordable) ticket for a guided tour of the Clifton Rocks Railway?
What do others wish for?
Happy New Year
Re: Happy New Year
A happy new year to all members of thus forum.
My first wish is for a few more people to join this forum.I'm sure there were more on it's previous existence.
My second is for more threads to be started; only 27 during 2021. That's roughly one a fortnight.
Maybe not this year, but when "Hengist" is competed, the loco has a mainline tour passing through Bristol,so that we all get a chance to see a Clan in Bristol.

Unfortunately I think that the rather lengthy period that the site was down some time ago meant that many people who used to post regularly have drifted away and havenÔÇÖt come back22A wrote: Mon Jun 27, 2022 5:40 pmOh dear; half way through 2022 and only seven new threads.22A wrote: Mon Jan 03, 2022 10:30 am My first wish is for a few more people to join this forum.I'm sure there were more on it's previous existence.

Re: Happy New Year
It is also possible that a few contributors have fallen by the wayside during the past few years. For myself, I moved out of the immediate area in March last year. I do keep an occasional eye on the Forum but haven't found anything that I can contribute to recent threads.
Despite having a lot to do with the new abode, I haven't been idle on the railway front. I did make a start volunteering in the Swanage area but threw in the towel before it really got started due to the Swanage Railway volunteer admin process letting me down badly. After six months I still had not been cleared to work there and they managed to lose my paperwork containing a lot of personal information. The response did involve an apology and was bounced around the higher management but there was no attempt to put the situation right so I walked away in disgust.
I embarked on a major project about a year ago, something which ramped up through the winter. That was to write my memoirs of learning about railways growing up in the Bristol area followed by my railway career lasting 40 odd years and what I did afterwards. Initially I didn't think there was enough material for more than a booklet and my photographic material was not of the best quality. However, I did manage to source lots of relevant material from ex colleagues and a few organisations such as Colour Rail. I must single out John Chalcraft of Rail Photoprints Ltd based in Temple Cloud who has been extremely helpful. No connection other than as a very satisfied customer.
Finding a publisher was not easy with none of the usual suspects committing to take it on. A few said they might look at it in due course but if I didn't hear from them within 6 - 9 months, they weren't interested. A former colleague used Amazon Self Publishing which got the job done but he makes just pence on each copy sold and it is not something he is considering for his second volume which covers time in the Bristol area running St Philips Marsh HST complex. I discovered another self publishing company called New Generation. They are being very helpful in guiding me through the process. My manuscript ended up with around 180,000 words and over 100 photos which has meant splitting into two volumes. It is all with the typesetters at the moment so will hopefully be published in a few months.
I have mentioned this forum a few times which led to some interesting outcomes, one involving a talk I put together and one leading to a VIP trip I was invited on.
