Margum to Eastleigh on a sat

Post by Nigeglos »

Hi, can I ask, the movement of multiple light engines on a sat just after lunch, what does this happen?
Why move them to Eastleigh? As opposed to somewhere else?

Cheers

Which company's locos are they and how many? Presumably all in one raft and not individually. Do they go through the Severn Tunnel or via Gloucester? Any idea of a headcode and how do you know they are en route to Eastleigh?

It's this one. Runs every sat, often runs far earlier than scheduled

Believe its had numerous locos attached together in the past. Think there is a you tube video with perhaps 8 or more.

Speculation - not sure if fuelling/servicing facilities still exist at Margam. If not, I wonder if they are gathered up to be attended to at Eastleigh depot. Failing that I wonder if they are diagrammed for weekend engineering work on the Southern region. In my latter years most engineering trains appeared to have been contracted to Freightliner.

A clip which came up in a YouTube video I just watched showed one of these workings from Saturday 28/4/2012. A convoy of 10 class 66s passing through Basingstoke en-route from Margam to Eastleigh running as 0X12. Nine in EWS livery and one in DB Shenker bright red. No explanation given as to the reason behind the move.

The video was called 'My Best 10 Videos Of All Time' posted by justinfoulger 6 years ago so it isn't just a recent working.
