 Post subject: Yate South realignment

Can anyone confirm a date when the up line from Westerleigh West Jcn to Yate South Jcn was realigned to run parallel with the down line rather than part company with it in order to form a 'flying junction' with the Midland main line at Yate South as it did originally? The resignalling of the route (and the simultaneous redesignation of the up line to be bi-directional) was completed as part of the Bristol MAS project Stage 8A by 10th May 1971. As at 4th January 1970 when the Midland route from Yate South to Bristol TM via Mangotsfield was singled, the flying junction was still in use, so the earthworks for the Yate South to Westerleigh West realignment must have been completed between those two dates. So did trains start using the new section of 'up' line on or before 10th May 1971?

If and when I can find my extremely rare book "Starting Something Big at Bristol" (full story of the Bristol MAS project in the early 1970s), I should be able to give you an exact answer to this question.

I've just moved house though, so don't hold your breath ...

I heard he was working on it a couple of years ago, but it seems to have gone quiet since then. I can't find my copy anywhere yet. Possible I lent it to somebody ...

About a year ago, you posted :wink: :
I'm donating my copy to the D&EPG archive at Williton. It'll be there from this weekend if anybody wants to come and have a look.

Hi,
I've just joined the forum and hello to everyone.

According to an entry on the Signalling Notices website the up line was realigned at Yate South Junction over the weekend 17th/18th January 1970.
