Designs for new Filton North station.

Slightly old news, but supposedly starting work soon.

This is a section of line I travelled over on numerous occasions. As a child in the 1950s I remember travelling to Henbury and back on a local service to visit a relative. My memory suggests the loco would have been some sort of prairie tank.

In 1970 while attending Filton Technical College, I commuted on a workers' train between Stapleton Road and North Filton Platform, just west of Gloucester Road North. The platform was officially closed long before but an unadvertised 3-car suburban dmu ran once a day in each direction for employees of Rolls Royce and BAC for years afterwards. Apart from the platforms, there were no facilities of any sort apart from the path/steps leading up to the main road.

Around 1980 with a class 50 at Bath Road Depot requiring a trial run, I was asked if we could go and assist a heavy freight with a class 37 at the head which had stalled climbing the bank at Chittening. We attached on the front and assisted the whole lot through to Severn Tunnel Junction.

Never thought I would see a station here again. I assume it will be built on the site of the old platform.

According to this https://travelwest.info/projects/north- ... n-stations it will be to the west of the old platforms, nearer to the Brabazon hangar and the rail/runway level crossing.
