I can't comment on these horrible trains apart from as a disappointed passenger. Primary and secondary suspension takes the knocks out of track irregularities to minimise the impact on the vehicle body and should be robustly designed to cope with what life throws at it. It's just as much to do with ride quality and passenger comfort. If traincrew report bad bumps and dips in the track, this can result in an emergency speed restriction pending examination followed by a temporary speed restriction if subsequent remedial action is required. In these days, we have Network Rail's New Measurement Train covering the network on a regular basis checking on track condition.
