Re: Ashley Down Station News
Sounds like good news although the timescale seems a bit ambitious. But then 2023 to 2024 can span the best part of two years in the extreme. A good catchment area including Ashley Down and Lockleaze as long as the trains go to where people need to get to especially when North Filton opens (Abbey Wood, UWE, Rolls Royce, Airbus, Cribbs, Temple Quarter?). This is clearly not a park and ride station so I imagine residents parking zones will need to be introduced in the surrounding area.
I can see a potential risk with platform overruns in the down direction and slipping on pulling away on the rising gradient during the adverse railhead season. About a decade ago I took part in a skid pan training exercise at Okehampton on the Dartmoor Railway to familiarise new FGW drivers in how to manage these conditions. It's quite an art but then we were using a class 143 Pacer.
