shopping for Bristol area railway books

Post by 76026 »

Hi,

Please can you recommend any bookshops ÔÇô including Charity and other second-hand shops- for:

- books about railways in and around Bristol
- old streetmaps / A-Zs of Bristol (1970s and earlier)

Thanks,

Sorry this is a belated response, but I only drop into the the forum occasionally nowadays.

I volunteer in the British Heart Foundation bookshop near the top of Blackboy Hill (corner of Worral Road). We had an immense bequest of railway books earlier in the year and hundreds of them have passed through the shelves in recent months, but if they don't sell within about 3 weeks they are cleared out. I'm next due to work there next Wednesday and I can check to see if there's any Bristol ones there.

Or you could drop in and browse anyway if you are at all interested in the non-railway stock. It's a great shop.

Not a railway related comment (sorry!). I lived at 7 Worrall Road from 1957 to 1978. I'd never thought of popping into the shop which I remember as Palmers Ironmongers. I must rectify that omission sometime!

Thanks Andy, and sorry that this also is a belated reply.

Next time I'm in Bristol with a bit of time to spare, I'll have a look in the BHF shop.
