I have been having a discussion with some members of another group regarding a signal at St Anne's Park. It is in a photo which we believe was taken early in the 20th century. It is a signal controlling movements on the down line but mounted on the up side at the west end of the station by the box. We have concluded that it was mounted there to assist with sighting on the left hand curve when emerging from no.2 tunnel. The signal itself consists of a main post with a home and distant arm. Bracketed to the left hand side is a solitary distant arm which we are speculating as to its purpose. My theory is that it is an advance warning that the route was set for the avoiding line via St Philips Marsh when there was a full triangle at North Somerset Junction at the west end of the cutting.
Any signalling experts out there?
