Hello,
I've been trying to find pictures of Westerleigh North signal box. Although a 50s closure the structure survived well into the 60s.
I'm also hunting for photos of Claverham and Yatton East, both of which seem quite elusive.
Can anybody point me in the right direction ?
Cheers

Thanks Madhattie. I was thinking more of the GWR box which the 28xx is probably passing. In one of Pete Rendall's books Wilf Stanley describes how the closed Westerleigh North and curve to Westerleigh East was reinstated to stable a Royal train in the early 60s (?).

I've just looked in my copy of Steam Around Bristol by Gerry Nichols featuring the photos of the late Mark Warburton. There are photos where both Claverham and Yatton East boxes are just visible in the far distance; all that can be deduced is that both seemed to be of all-timber construction.

I asked Gerry if there are any pictures of those boxes in Mark's archive, and I'm afraid his answer was:

The simple answer is no because all three were remote from any public road or other access, the signalman presumably cycling along the line to the box.

Cheers,
Clearly there was too much happening at Yatton for photographers to venture east. Sadly this was the case for many boxes that were out in the sticks. However there were signalling enthusiasts in the steam days so I'm not giving up hope. My only picture of Lympsham for example is a distant shot from Brean Platform.

Hello. Another box I'm trying to find a photo of is Hutton on the Weston avoider. This seems another camera shy box. Cheers Ashley.

At Yatton you don't mean the ground frame on the down platform do you?
In 'Somerset and Avon Railways in old photographs' collected by Kevin Robertson there is a photo that shows the little ground frame under the footbridge.
I am guessing Yatton East dated from later, after the running loops were added?

cheers

Thanks for that,I didn't know about the ground frame.
Yatton East was between Claverham and Yatton. It controlled the country ends of the goods loops from Claverham plus an extension of the down loop towards Yatton.
Hutton was on the Weston avoiding line between Worle Jct and Uphill Jct.
Yatton East closed on 06/09/64
Hutton closed on 07/6/64
