Class 47's were officially rated at 95 mph but there was no speed limiting device fitted as there was with HST's. Class 50's were rated at 100mph but I once timed one at 104. A further update to clarify, which seems to contradict the earlier answer. Down unfitted freights had their brakes pinned down at Patchway then released beyond Pilning before entering the tunnel at 1 in 100. So in answer to the initial question, there was no restriction on unfitted freights.

I agree Andy. I recorded it and fast forwarded approx 30 minutes to the model railway scene. I carried on to the end hoping that it would return to cover the crash scene but to no avail. Might watch the whole thing when I have nothing else to do.

Not much wrong with those so thank you for sharing.

Regarding the raft of withdrawn southern locos, I'm sure I read somewhere that they were not allowed through the Severn Tunnel en-route to South Wales so had to go the long way round.
