Re: Fishponds - Clifton Down

As I find is more and more frequently the case these days, when I resort to looking things up, facts are not quite what I remember. I have a Locoshed book from probably around 1956 or 1957 which shows that there are no 82xxx allocated to the Bristol Division at that time, or to Barrow Road. I have ...

Re: Fishponds - Clifton Down

You are both right! My BR Steam Allocation database shows 82006/07/09,82030/33/35/37/38, 82040/42/43/44 allocated to Bath Road until July/ August 1960 when they were all transferred to Barrow Road. This would have more or less tied in with Bath Road's closure for converstion to a diesel depot. 82004...

Re: vintage film

Hello again. I fully understand your point. However I have no connection with whoever posted the clips on Youtbe, I just stumbled across them whilst searching under "Bristol area railways". No problem - and I wasn't suggesting it was you, just making an observartion! And it's not just me. There are...

Re: vintage film

I started to watch the Bristol to Mangotsfield one just after you posted the link last year, but as they depicted only stills and no film I gave up after a few images. Last night I watched it right through and was surprised to find a couple of my images in it! (82004 at Staple Hill and D70 at Mangot...

Re: Mystery trains

I never actually went on one of those Mystery Trips, but I had an uncle working in the Enquiry Office at Temple Meads at the time who confirmed their immense popularity. The destination of these trains were kept a closely--guarded secret, something that is rather more diffficult today given sites li...

Re: Montpellier

Both Leckhampton (also sometimes known as Cheltenham South and Leckhampton) and Charlton Kings were both within or adjacent to the Victorian built up areas around Cheltenham. I'm not sure that map is accurate showing a Cheltenham Spa station next to Lansdown. All three major stations in Cheltenham (...

Re: Exodus!

We don’t usually discuss politics on this forum but, as we haven’t really discussed anything on here for the last month. Perhaps just this once I will  I agree with Roy over a responsibility to vote. I have voted in every election since I came of age in 1970, including the 2019 one, but tha...

Re: Exodus!

If our inglorious leaders tell people that they can't travel anywhere for the foreseeable future after midninght on a given day, we can rest assured that the word, his wife nd their dog will try to beat the deadline. The law of unintended consequences. In other news, our Health Minister told the wor...

Re: Spotting in those Early Years

If you'd taken some pictures of those shiny boxes in the 1960's they would be of great interest now. It's a funny old world........... This needs to be seen in the context of the time. Photography was expensive in those days. There were no such things as digital cameras; and films needed to be boug...
