Re: vintage film

I started to watch the Bristol to Mangotsfield one just after you posted the link last year, but as they depicted only stills and no film I gave up after a few images. Last night I watched it right through and was surprised to find a couple of my images in it! (82004 at Staple Hill and D70 at Mango...

Re: Mystery trains

Thinking more on this subject, we always seemed to be hauled by a Bath Road long range class 47. Bearing in mind we were enthusiastic teenagers, we tried counting the time interval between mile posts on some sections and convinced ourselves the train was travelling at 100mph. :D As 76026 posted, the...

Mystery trains

Following on from football specials, anyone remember the Mystery Trains that operated from TM during the late 60s / early 70's? They were always good value; I went on several ending up in Kent for a few hours. On one occasion, a group of us jumped on a local train to Ashford when that preservation c...

Football specials

OK folks, let's get a new discussion going. Which memories of football specials in the Bristol area do you have please? When City reached the FA cup final, apart from the usual service trains, the GWR ran eighteen specials to London that day. 1968 when City and Rovers were drawn together for a cup m...

Re: Industrial Railways in and around Bristol

According to the Industrial Rly Society handbook there was no 060 saddle tank at Stapleton Rd gasworks. All steam locos at the site were 040 configuration. The last steam loco left May 1968; the diminutive Peckett that was on the Gwili Railway (as Merlin). Apologies for the duff gen. As I said I nev...

Re: Industrial Railways in and around Bristol

Eastville (officially Stapleton Road) Gas works has their own 0-6-0ST, but I never saw it. This loco was mentioned on the previous version of this forum. Connected to the GWR mainline on 12th February 1879 and the Clifton Extension Railway on 7th April 1895. Gas production ceased on 26th March 1971....

Re: Fishponds - Clifton Down

Hi Devonian. Recently Youtbue has hosted several films that appear to be montages of stills and film from assorted sources. This one (the demolition of the viaduct) clearly shows the Pathe emblem in the upper right corner; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ud_2XslsrA This one has none; https://www.yo...
